You cannot NOT know of Niagara Falls, mainly because it is an actual natural wonder of the world. The Falls borders the United States, so living here is incredibly convenient for those working in the States, and even for those of us who prefer to pop over to the Buffalo airport for our getaways. Having the waterfall in close proximity is an easy activity for visitors, along with Niagara’s version of Vegas on Clifton Hill: Haunted houses, go karts, arcades, museums, a giant ferris wheel, and a mini putt course with to-scale moving animatronic Dinosaurs! There’s also the up-and-coming Queen Street area, which features bars, restaurants (even a perfect date spot in Paris), shops, and on some summer nights, it’s a walking street with car shows and streetside bands. There are also some quirky, well-known local spots such as a donut shop that serves up a mean wonton soup; an old train route called the “Screaming Tunnel” (on the outskirts) where people claim to hear spooky sounds in the dark; a restaurant shaped like a giant Flying Saucer; and Heartland Forest, an accessible 93 acre nature park perfect for families to tire out the kids for the day.
Some of the century homes that you’ll find in central Falls are fascinating to view, and remind you that Niagara Falls has been around for a long time. The city as a whole offers a huge range of homes if you’re looking to move in. In the north end, January Drive is a coveted nook with million dollar estates down the road from a large park and a drive from the parkway to Niagara-on-the-Lake. More humble homes are dotted throughout the central to south end, and plenty of families and executive professionals alike inhabit these convenient areas.
It is worth mentioning that Niagara Falls is another city that is experiencing a growth period – not only in the tourism sector (we already have two casinos, and now a 5000 seat entertainment centre at the base of the Hilton hotel there), but for the population there who may have in previous years been somewhat overlooked, such as a new Costco. A multitude of developments have been given the OK by a very motivated governing body in the Falls.
There is plenty to do in this city. Of all of the cities in the Niagara Region, this is the one that doesn’t sleep. Entertainment districts everywhere, natural beauty at the waterfalls, activities for the kids, parks to get your exercise, airports and 3 bridges with access to the border, golf courses and Casinos, and vibrant nightlife. Beyond the wonder of the world, for all that it offers, you can’t NOT know Niagara Falls.
